California Health Care Facility (CHCF), part of the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR), opened in 2013 in Stockton, California and provides inpatient and outpatient medical and mental-health care to incarcerated people of all security levels, housing approximately 2,950. Because CHCF serves a medical and mental-health population year-round, durable, low-maintenance fitness equipment that supports safe, structured activity is an important part of its recreation infrastructure.

The Solution

Fitness for a Medical and Mental-Health Population

CHCF cares for incarcerated patients with significant medical and mental-health needs, so accessible, low-impact conditioning and safe daily routines matter as much as strength training. Outdoor-Fit supplied three systems designed for high-volume, supervised use in secure environments: Apollo Multigym, Helios Multigym, Everest Cardio Climber.

All multigyms are weather-resistant and engineered for long-term use in correctional recreation areas. Their heavy-duty construction, tamperproof components, and low-maintenance design help reduce ongoing servicing requirements, with periodic inspections recommended to support safe operation and long-term performance.

Apollo Multigym

Apollo Multigym is an eight-station correctional multigym for five users and 75+ exercises, pairing bodyweight stations (chin/dip bars with assist, plyo box, back extension, knee raise, calf-raise step) with a high/low pulley and a 100 lb selectorized stack adjustable 10-100 lb. The pop-pin rides in a security track; staff can lock or disable it. ADA-accessible.

Helios Multigym

Helios Multigym is a six-station correctional multigym for up to four users and 50+ bodyweight exercises, featuring chin-up and dip stations with Outdoor-Fit's chin/dip assist mechanism so all fitness levels can train, plus a plyo box, back extension, knee raise, and calf-raise step.

Everest Cardio Climber

Everest Cardio Climber is a single-user, cadence-powered stair climber offering strength- or cardio-focused modes with no electronics or external resistance, so intensity is set by the user's stroke and pace. Developed with the Kinesiology department at Dalhousie University for biomechanically sound movement; tamperproof and weather-resistant for high-frequency use.

Frequently Asked Questions About Outdoor-Fit Prison Fitness Equipment

Yes. The Apollo Multigym is ADA-accessible with adjustable resistance (10–100 lb), and its chin/dip assist mechanism supports users of varying strength. The Everest Cardio Climber offers low-impact conditioning — a combination well suited to CHCF’s medical and mental-health population and a range of abilities.

All three. The Apollo Multigym’s adjustable resistance and the Helios Multigym’s assisted bodyweight stations let patients train safely at their own level, while the Everest Cardio Climber provides low-impact cardiovascular conditioning — supporting safe, structured daily activity rather than heavy strength work alone.

These systems include moving parts (pulleys, assist mechanisms and the climber’s stroke assembly). We recommend regular inspections of structural components, hardware and moving parts, with quick visual checks weekly — or more often in high-use recreation areas. A maintenance checklist ships with every installation.

Yes. The Apollo Multigym supports up to five users at once and the Helios Multigym up to four, so more people can train in less space under supervision.
